Distribution: Indomalayan/Palearctic. Breeds in southern SIBERIA (Lake Baikal) and MONGOLIA east to Amur, northeastern CHINA (Manchuria), NORTH KOREA, and JAPAN (rarely) south to northern MYANMAR and northeastern INDIA (Assam); winters from PAKISTAN, INDIA and SRI LANKA to southern CHINA, BORNEO, and PHILIPPINES. more.... |

Habitat and Habits: In its breeding range, it is found in open dry steppe, river valleys, meadows, swamps, lake basins, coatal marshes, ricefields, and reed beds.
