-B.Sc. Biological Sciences, University of Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain, 1996. -M.Sc. Biological Sciences.“Land birds of Ons Islands (Atlantic Islands National Park): abundance and distribution.” Year 2001. -Ph.D. Biological Sciences. “Study of the Falconiformes community in Ourense province (NW Spain). With special mention for the southwestern mountain range”. Year 2004. Both were defended at the Department of Animal Biology, University of Santiago de Compostela. -Predoctoral fellowship at US Rangelan Ecosystem Science Center: Snake River Field Station & Boise State University (Idaho, USA) (period August-October 1999), where I worked on various projects related to ecology and conservation of birds of prey and data processing of my Doctoral Thesis. -Posdoctoral fellowship at Norwegian University of Life Sciences (Ås, Norway) (period 2005-2006), allowed me to study the ecological interactions between predators and herbivores in boreal forest environments. -Posdoctoral fellowship at Doñana Biological Station, Spanish Research Council (Sevilla, Spain) (period 2008-2010), where my research activity was focused in the foraging ecology of the threatened Lesser kestrel (Falco naumanni) and using video-remote monitoring techniques to assess the global change impact on the ecology of this raptor in Southern Spain. My professional activities also have been focused on ecological impact assessment studies and wildlife management and ecological restoration.-My research interests are related to ecology and conservation of birds in NW Spain, mainly raptors, including habitat use and distribution modeling and predator-prey relationships. -Currently I combine my research activity with technical assistance in the private sector. -I am also involved in the technical management and recovery plan of Golden eagle (Aquila chrysaetos) in Galicia (NW Spain) as head scientist in collaboration with Galician Regional Government (Xunta de Galicia).

   Research Interests

I am a PhD in Biology specialized in ecology and conservation biology of vertebrates, wildlife monitoring, habitat management and environmental impact assesment.
An important part of my academic and professional carrer has been linked at Department of Zoology, Genetics & Physical Anthropology and Technological Research Center (University of Santiago de Compostela). Here, I participated in the teaching activities of the Department (topics of Zoology, Animal Ecology, Conservation Biology and Wildlife Management).
During my career to date I have acquired in-depth knowledge of sampling design, data acquisition, large-database management, data mining, data manipulation and interpretation, statistics and ecological modeling, among others.
My research interests are related to ecology and conservation of birds in NW Spain, mainly raptors, including habitat use, distribution modeling and predator-prey relationships. My professional activities also have been focused on wildlife management, ecological restoration and ecological impact assessment studies (more 70 technical reports for the assistance to the public administration and private sector).
Experience in raptor ecology studies: survey techniques, habitat sampling, habitat management, impact and mitigation techniques, prey management, augmenting wild populations, food studies, capturing and handling, marking, spatial tracking, impact with utility structures (wind farms, power lines), etc.
Experience with other birds species (songbirds, waders): census techniques, trapping and ringing, radio tracking, habitat use, diet analysis, ageing and sexing, etc.

Species of Interest:
  • Aquila chrysaetos
  • Circus pygargus
  • Circus cyaneus
  • Accipiter gentilis
  • Buteo buteo
